ABOUT

Dr. Julia Bell is Assistant Professor of Trumpet at Texas Tech University.

 

An active performer, Bell was the third-place winner of the Graduate Solo Division of the 2022 National Trumpet Competition and has been a featured soloist with the Mantzaros Philharmonic (Corfu, Greece) and Texas Tech University Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Concert Band. She was a member of the trumpet section of the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra for four years and has also performed with the Steamboat Symphony Orchestra, Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Panama City Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Gulf Coast, Albany Symphony Orchestra (GA), Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, Mediterranean Opera Festival Orchestra, Blue Lake Festival Orchestra, and Miami Music Festival Orchestra. Dedicated to promoting and performing new works, Bell is an active commissioner of new music and her recent solo appearances include a recital of twenty-first century works for trumpet and electronics at the 2024 National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors Conference, as well as performances in the New Works Recitals of both the International Women’s Brass Conference and International Trumpet Guild Conference. She serves on the Board of Directors for the New Works Project, working to expand the repertoire for all instruments and make new music accessible, and is also a member of the Board of Directors for the International Women’s Brass Conference.

 

Prior to her appointment at Texas Tech University, Bell taught at the University of South Alabama and Tarleton State University as a sabbatical replacement, as well as maintained an active private studio. She has presented masterclasses and recitals nationally and internationally and has performed and presented clinics at the National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors Conference, International Trumpet Guild Conference, International Women’s Brass Conference, and New York State Music Teachers Association Virtual Symposium. She has been a faculty member for the Corfu International Trumpet Festival, University of Kentucky Summer Trumpet Institute, Texas Tech University Band & Orchestra Camp, and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp.

 

Bell’s primary trumpet teachers have included Christopher Moore, John Rommel, Edmund Cord, and Kris Kwapis. She holds her Doctor of Music degree in Trumpet Performance with a Doctoral Specialized Study in Arts Administration from Florida State University, a Master of Music in Performance from Florida State University, and a Bachelor of Music in Performance with a Certificate in Arts Administration from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
